Traffic school by mail, anywhere in California

You register, we mail you a booklet, you work through it at home and take an open-book final. No computer, no internet, no timer. Your completion goes to the DMV and your court the same way it would for any other student.

Who takes the booklet course

Most people who choose paper have a reason for it. Any of these sound familiar and the booklet is the easier route:

  • You don’t own a computer, or the one at home isn’t really yours to use
  • Your internet is slow, capped, or drops out halfway through things
  • You read better on paper than on a screen
  • You’d rather work through it in the evenings than sit at a screen after work
  • You want something you can put in a drawer and come back to

The course itself is identical either way. Same chapters, same questions, same DMV license, same final exam. The only difference is whether it arrives in an envelope or on a screen.

What happens, step by step

Seven steps from registering to the DMV being told.

  1. Register

Two minutes online. Or call 1-877-644-0116 during business hours and we’ll take the details over the phone.

  2. Your booklet is mailed

It goes out the next business day, first-class, to the address you gave us. After that it’s in the post office’s hands.

  3. It arrives

An envelope with the course booklet and everything you need to complete it. Nothing else to buy.

  4. Read it at your own pace

Short chapters on California traffic law and safe driving. A few questions after each one so you know it stuck. No timer is running.

  5. Take the open-book final

25 multiple-choice questions. You need 18 right, the booklet stays open in front of you, and two attempts are included.

  6. Send the answer sheet back

Fax it to 1-800-863-2589, or mail it to 14547 Titus St. #108, Panorama City, CA 91402. Faxing is the quicker of the two.

  7. We grade it and report it

We grade your exam by hand. Once it passes, your completion goes to the DMV and your court electronically, and a receipt comes to you by email.

About the deadline

Be realistic about this one. The booklet course travels twice: out to you after it ships the next business day, and back to us once you have finished the exam. Then we grade it before anything is reported. How long the mail takes at either end is the post office’s business, not ours, and we won’t pretend to know.

You can cut out the return leg by faxing the answer sheet to 1-800-863-2589 instead of mailing it. That is the fastest way to finish the booklet course.

If your court date is close, take the online course instead. It is the same course, it is graded as soon as you finish, and there is nothing to mail either way.

Not sure how much time you have? Your court paperwork gives the date by which traffic school has to be completed. If you can’t find it, call us at 1-877-644-0116 and we’ll help you work out which route fits.

What it costs

The booklet course is $39.95, and code SAVE3 takes $3 off at checkout. Reporting your completion and your emailed receipt are included — neither is an upgrade. Your court charges its own administrative fee separately; that one is paid to the court.
